Proposing Website Costs and Timelines with Integrity

by Adam on Apr.27, 2009, under business, software, tips

When a potential client asks me, “How much and how long?” a million questions start rushing to my head. A seemingly obvious thing to do first is to figure out what exactly it is that they want; however, that’s very rarely well defined. Let’s assume though that you have at least a decent idea of what it is that they want, estimating the costs involved is such a delicate balance.

Some Thoughts on Prototyping

by Greg on Jan.26, 2009, under business, software, startup

the chicken or the egg

Imagine if you will folks an application that searches your refrigerator automagically knows the items that you usually buy and what you are currently missing. While you are in the vicinity of your local market, the fridge alerts your phone that you are out of milk and within a mile of the grocery store. This might actually be a product, but lets say its not for argument sake. Pretty darn cool but unfortunately the person who has this idea has no idea how to start seeing this through to fruition.

As the economy continues to trend downward and people are losing their jobs, we see this increase in entrepreneurs finally being able to pursue their big idea’s. (continue reading…)

“BBC America” – “Business” Broadcasting Corporation…America

by Greg on Jan.15, 2009, under blogging, business, startup

bbcI am a huge fan of BBC America for 2 main reasons. Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares and the Dragons’ Den. Though I really can’t stomach most reality television, these are my exceptions. Dragons’ Den pits 5 millionaire investors willing to invest their own money in hopeful entrepreneurs’ products and ideas. These idea’s are anything from automatic rocking baby strollers to spicy jerk chicken marinade recipe’s. Gordon Ramsey is basically all 5 of those dragons rolled into one loud, foul mouthed, restaurateur that does nothing but make your restaurant successful.

I have been watching these shows for all of about 6 months now and I have come to realize what Chef Ramsay and the Dragons’ are looking for. Wait for it…it’s the basics. Of course it is a lot more than that but when both show get really interesting is when the “victims” don’t do the basics. (continue reading…)

Xgineer Holiday Happy Hour

by Greg on Dec.19, 2008, under startup

We’re moving a little slow today after the Pearl Hotel hosted our Xgineer Holiday Happy Hour. We were lucky enough to be accompanied by some of the guys at Showing Suite. thepearl

If you live in San Diego and have not been to the Pearl Hotel, I suggest you get over there. The menu is amazing and the vibe is like an old Hollywood pool party. The staff was great and if you have a little too much to drink, just spend the night in one of their kickass rooms.

We’ll definitely have to head back there for one of their “dive-in” movie nights around the pool. Go to the website and see whats playing. Also, let us know if you do want to stay there and we can try and work our magic on rates and amenities for you.

All in all our first annual Holiday Happy Hour was a success. It was such a success in fact, that it was carried over to Pacific Beach for a continuation of the festivities.

We would like to sincerely thank the ShowingSuite team for the great partnership over the last year as well as the headache’s this morning.

Happy Holiday’s from Xgineer Solutions.
