As we look down this road of prototyping I wanted to get a sense of what it is people really think leads to the failure of a tech start up. Please feel free to follow the link and weigh in.

    hi Greg,

A tech startup that is driven by engineers has these downfalls:
    1) they work in the business and not on the business
    2) they are engineers and not managers
    3) engineering consumes their life and this squashes innovation
    4) they are the 'system', and do not rather create systems

    Dean,
Try not to generalize… but for what it’s worth, I must defend my engineering compatriots.

    1) A good engineer can and does both, while a good manager can still only achieve one of side of this coin.
    2) Someones got to do the work around here. We also are irked when managers constantly use rhetoric to convince everyone else their role is important.
    3) A life consumed by engineering is the ONLY source of practical innovation. Most others are the star trek set designers of Hollywood, while engineers actually put a man on the moon (even though we tend to still like star trek more for entertainment sake).
    4) This sounds like engineers might have a false sense of Autonomy… and are nearly ’slave’ like. I might hate you for this ;)

    Cheers,

    -jr
